| Nebraska corrections may consolidate mental health beds |

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska's corrections department is considering a plan that would concentrate more mental health beds at a state prison facility in Lincoln, the director told lawmakers Tuesday. The plan under review would increase the number of residential beds at the Lincoln Correctional Center, while reducing the number at the state prison in Tecumseh. "It is not an efficient or effective use of limited resources to have all mental health services available at all facilities," Director Scott Frakes said in testimony before the Appropriations Committee. "We need to house offenders based on their programming and treatment needs to ensure they obtain needed services." Read More. |
