“As President of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, I am deeply disturbed by the shooting of two police officers last night in Ferguson, Missouri. Thankfully, while the officers are in serious condition, it appears that they will survive this incident. Sadly, this event once again demonstrates the profound danger law enforcement officers face and witness on a daily basis. Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to confront crime and violence in our communities. Understanding recent challenges, we call on law enforcement and community leaders to continue to work closely together to address issues of mutual concern and mutual respect. Our thoughts and prayers are with the wounded officers, their families, friends and colleagues.” |
