There won’t be any artists or poets to field questions at a gallery reception on Thursday at the Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center, but the collection of work still speaks volumes. Revealing the Inner Inmate: Expressions of Art and Poetry from Inmates in South Dakota will be on display through April 17 at the ARCC Gallery. Thursday’s reception runs from 6:30-9 p.m. It will include refreshments, presentations and discussions “about how the public might help to lower the recidivism rate in South Dakota,” according to a news release. Lawrence Diggs of Roslyn is the Buddhist chaplain for Sioux Falls prisons. He has been using poetry to introduce Buddhist principals to the inmates he works with. He pays for his own outreach, which limits how much he can do, but he has an excellent philosophy about it. Read More. |
