MIDDLEBURG — Snyder County has inked a formal contract with Northumberland County to house inmates for $72 a day. Since the Jan. 14 fire destroyed the Northumberland County jail on North Second Street, Snyder County has temporarily sheltered some of the neighboring county’s inmates. Northumberland County officials have entered an agreement with the state Department of Corrections to more permanently incarcerate male inmates at the state prison in Coal Township and females in the state facility at Muncy at a per-prisoner cost of $65 a day until new housing is arranged.
