| Hutchinson, Rutledge weigh in on court's lethal injection decision |

UPDATE: The Arkansas Supreme Court ruled Thursday that executions by lethal injection can resume in the state, overturning a lower court decision which ruled the law allowing executions to be carried out by the Department of Corrections was unconstitutional. The Supreme Court ruled that the legislature can't delegate its power, but it can delegate some discretionary authority to the Department of Corrections, for example, choosing what the drugs to use in an execution. Arkansas hasn't executed anyone since 2005. Right now, 32 inmates are on death row. Governor Asa Hutchinson said after Thursday's ruling, he'll soon start making plans to continue executions in our state. "I've already met with the attorney general on this topic, looking at the status of the ones that are currently pending and to see what the next steps are. Now that we have this issue resolved, we'll go back and see what the time frames are, and I think that the first step is to make sure that the Department of Corrections has what it needs to carry out the legislative direction," said Hutchinson.
