| Jail administrator retiring after 25 years |

Over the past 25 years, Captain Tim Schuler has seen the booking process at the St. Joseph County Jail go from a typewriter to computer, doors that used to open with keys now controlled by a touch-screen monitor, and the amount of space for female inmates grow from a single seven-person cell to accommodations for as many as nearly three dozen women. “I guess it just goes to show that if you stick around long enough, you see changes in all sorts of ways imaginable,” Schuler said. A captain and the jail administrator of the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, Schuler is retiring at the end of the month.
