LINCOLN — Nebraska prison officials will participate in a national program aimed at reducing the use of solitary confinement. The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services is one of five departments selected by the Vera Institute of Justice to develop alternatives to the practice of segregating inmates from the wider prison population. The two-year initiative, launched earlier this year, will provide Nebraska with technical assistance to develop plans for the proper use of prisoner segregation.
