Corrections director retires after 15 years

Montgomery County is now looking for a new director for the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation following the recent departure of Art Wallenstein. Wallenstein retired on March 13 after 15 years of overseeing adult correctional operations at the short-term detention center in Rockville and the longer-term correctional facility in Boyds.

“He was a terrific director — it will be difficult to fill his shoes,” said County Executive Isiah Leggett. “[The job] is not as visible as some of the others, but what he’s doing is just as valuable as police officers and first responders.”

Heading operations in Wallenstein’s place is Acting Director Robert Green, who has been serving as the warden at the facility in Boyds.
