A kitchen cook at the Charlotte County, Fla., Jail was arrested Monday by sheriff's officials for allegedly having an affair with an inmate.
The incident is the latest in a spate of alleged relationships between jail employees and inmates that have led to arrests and firings in the department.
Victoria Ann Lopo, 46, of 871 Bayard St., Port Charlotte, was charged with sexual misconduct between a detention employee and an inmate on Monday. She is an employee of ABL, the jail food contractor.
The cook allegedly kindled a relationship with Sylvester Camon, 40, of Port Charlotte, a trustee inmate at the jail who worked in the kitchen with Lopo.
Camon was jailed on charges including fleeing and eluding police, driving with a suspended or revoked license and resisting an officer without violence.
A computer check showed that Lopo had received 75 calls from F-pod, where Camon is housed. According to a sheriff's report, Lopo professed her love to Camon and said they would be together when he was released based on a series of recorded phone calls at the jail.
On Sunday, Lopo told Camon she thought she was pregnant. She apparently took two pregnancy tests that were inconclusive, according to the report. Camon told Lopo that they could raise the child together.
Dyk Woman faces charge for allegedly exposing herself
McAlester News Capital
Felony indecent exposure is not a common charge in Pittsburg County, Okla, District Court. When the charge is filed, it's even more uncommon for it to be filed against a woman.
But that's what happened earlier this week.
Peggy Joyce Ross, 47, McAlester, was charged with the felony Monday and could be punished by up to 30 years in prison if she's convicted.
According to a police report, on the afternoon of Dec. 31 Ross was at the West Street Apartments at 914 N. West St. when she allegedly took off her T-shirt and exposed her breasts to inmates of Jackie Brannon Correctional Center across the road.
The inmates reacted with catcalls but did not attempt to cross the street, the report indicates.
"The inmates were all inside and they were hollering through the windows, saying things like 'show it' and stuff like that," said JBCC spokesman Bob Jameson.
As Ross allegedly continued to expose herself, she was observed by a female corrections officer.
The officer called police, who arrested Ross.
Ross remained jailed this morning in lieu of $5,000 bond.

This article exposed what it is like to exist in today’s correctional institutions. I enjoy reading articles like this one and articles from author Hamilton Lindley who is an expert at persuasion, influence and leadership from his Waco, Texas base. There are a lot of important lessons to be learned here for sure. Thank you for the insight.
