ALBANY — A brawl among about 20 inmates at Wyoming Correctional Facility has been highlighted as the state’s corrections officer union starts an awareness campaign over prison violence. New data from the Department of Corrections & Community Supervision shows an alarming increase in violence in Western New York prisons and across the state, with inmate-on-staff assaults on track this year to be up 50 percent since 2010, NYSCOPBA officials said in a news release. According to DOCCS, several incident categories are on pace to reach five-year highs. They include inmate-on-staff assaults; contraband; and parolee staff assaults.
