| Rezin tours Cook County jail, highlights need for reforms |

CHICAGO – Calling Illinois’ criminal justice system “in need of some change,” Sen. Sue Rezin, R-Morris, organized a tour of the Cook County Jail with Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle, fellow legislators and people involved in the criminal justice system. “The best way to really get a ‘feel’ for how overcrowded Illinois’ prisons really are, is to see it first hand,” Rezin said in a news release. Rezin has toured the Cook County Jail several times. Thursday she was joined by Sen. Emil Jones, D-Chicago; Rep. Robert Pritchard, R- Sycamore; Rep. Camille Lilly, D-Chicago; Rep. Elaine Nekritz, D-Buffalo Grove; Rep. Terri Bryant, R-Mt. Vernon; Dr. Melvin Hinton, Chief of Mental Health Services with the Illinois Department of Corrections; Rodger Heaton, Illinois Public Safety Director; and Jessica McMiller Baptiste, Department of Juvenile Justice. “Reforming the criminal justice system will save taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars and make our prisons safer for both inmates and our correctional officers,” Rezin said.
