| Convicted Topeka sex criminal James Monroe Pollock dies at 73 |

More than 33 years after James Monroe Pollock nearly killed a 13-year-old Topeka boy he sodomized with a blunt object, Pollock died last month in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections. That department indicated on its website that Pollock, a 73-year-old inmate at Lansing Correctional Facility, died March 9. Pollock was serving a sentence of 69 years to life in prison on convictions for crimes that include aggravated battery and aggravated sodomy. Authorities said Pollock sexually attacked the boy in 1981, inflicting severe injuries that required 16 operations, including a colostomy and a reversal of the colostomy. A surgeon testified at Pollock’s trial that a blunt wooden or metal object was used to injure the youth, who was lucky to survive because he didn’t receive medical treatment until about 18 hours after being hurt.
