| Funding cuts threaten closure of juvenile detention center |

A methamphetamine addiction treatment program, 50 local jobs and the well-being of wayward youth are on the line after Governor Bruce Rauner cut funding for the Franklin County Detention Center from the fiscal year 2016 budget, area officials said. In addition to dealing a blow to the local economy, closure of the detention center would harm youth, said Shawn Freeman, superintendent of the facility. “We are a jail, in one sense, but we’re really just helping kids get through a difficult time in their lives,” the superintendent said. “We don’t call them inmates, and we don’t call them cells.
