| Memorial garden for crime victims opens at Columbia’s Riverfront Park |

Several of South Carolina’s highest-ranking law enforcement officials joined political leaders and others Monday in Columbia for the unveiling ceremony of the Memorial Garden & Pathway to Remembrance at Riverfront Park. The memorial project was organized by the South Carolina Crime Victims’ Council. “The victims’ garden will honor lives lost, but I hope it will also serve as a place of tranquility for those left behind,” said South Carolina Department of Corrections Director Bryan Stirling. Stirling spoke at Monday’s opening ceremony in the new garden near the entrance of Riverfront Park, along with Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin, Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster, Attorney General Alan Wilson, SLED Chief Mark Keel and State Office of Victim Assistance Director Larry Barker. Read More. |
