YAKIMA, Wash. — The Yakima City Council adjourned in less than an hour Tuesday after quickly approving some routine items and delaying others for further discussion. Among the latter was a proposed contract with the state Department of Corrections to form a joint crisis response unit for sharing information on suspects. The information could help end dangerous standoffs or hostage situations. The delay resulted after Councilman Tom Dittmar, who sits on the city’s Public Safety Committee, said he hadn’t heard input from Yakima police officers on the proposal. The council agreed to send the issue to the committee for discussion before voting on it. The Public Safety Committee meets at 10 a.m. Friday on the second floor of City Hall. “I’ve read the supporting material, and I have no issues with it. I just want to hear more from our officers,” Dittmar said after the meeting. Read More. |
