| Stroudsburg man heading to county court in jail assault case |

A man will head to county court for allegedly assaulting a corrections officer while in Monroe County Correctional Facility on charges of taking part in a Hamilton Township drive-by shooting murder. Snydersville District Judge JoLana Krawitz found the prosecution presented sufficient evidence at a Monday hearing to send the assault charges against Bruce Murray Jr., 23, of Stroudsburg, to county court, where Murray can go to trial, plead guilty or plead no contest. Two of the three aggravated assault counts were withdrawn due to lack of evidence supporting certain elements of each count. Murray remains in county jail without bail in the January 2014 murder case, in which he has pleaded guilty and awaits sentencing. At Monday's hearing on the assault charges, the prosecution presented a picture showing corrections officer John Spencer II with a bloody face after the assault. The prosecution also presented a jail surveillance video, showing Spencer and Murray exchanging blows while emerging from behind an area obstructing the camera's view. Read More. |
