An on-duty correction officer fired a shot in Washington Heights on Tuesday while chasing down a man freed by mistake, according to police sources. Four correction Intelligence Bureau officers were trying to arrest a man who had been prematurely released from Department of Correction custody around 5 p.m., a DOC spokesman said. During the struggle at 160th St. and Amsterdam Ave., one officer shot a single round from his gun, police sources said. No one was injured by the bullet. Read More. |
