| Five correction officers hospitalized after inmates refused to return to their housing units |

HOUTZDALE, Pa.-- A release from the Department of Corrections says around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at SCI Houtzdale, during an outside recreational session in the prison yard, a group of inmates refused to return to their housing units. That is when things turned violent, five correction officers were taken to the hospital, and details remain vague about what happened. “Within the next few days that will be a part of our information gathering process. What precipitate? Who was involved in the activity, all of those things will be determined,” Sue Bensinger with the Department of Corrections said. Bensinger said she is not going into detail about the extent of the injuries to the five but she did confirm that one person had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter. Read More. |
