State works to close the prison system's revolving door

LINCOLN, Neb. —The state of Nebraska is struggling to keep good help in the prison system.

Officers and case workers leaving in alarming numbers is a problem brewing behind the walls of the state's prisons.

"I'm here to let everybody know there is a problem, and we need to look at it and we need to look at it fast, because we are losing a lot of very good staff," a Tecumseh Corrections Officer said.

The Tecumseh Corrections Officer said he loves job, but because of staff shortages, they are forced to work mandatory overtime. Sometimes officers worked a double shift and were notified an hour before they were supposed to leave.
