New mental health court program coming to Horry County

20 percent of state prisoners, 21 percent of local jail inmates, and 70 percent of those in the juvenile justice program nationwide have a recent history with mental illness, according to numbers from the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson has noticed the issue.

"There's really no person in this county or these two counties that isn't affected by mental health," said Richardson.

That's why Richardson's office, in conjunction with Waccamaw Mental Health Center, is starting a new program.
