The Schuylkill County Prison may be selected for a pilot program to provide Vivitrol and medication-assisted treatment to offenders diagnosed with opioid dependence. Representatives from Clinical Outcomes Group Inc., Pottsville, asked the prison board Wednesday for a letter of support to include in their application for the program. “We are really excited about it,” Jennifer Melochick, director of programs for Clinical Outcomes Group Inc., said Wednesday. The state Commission of Crime Delinquency and the Department of Human Services Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services have made up to $1.25 million available for the pilot program. Vivitrol is a monthly, extended-release injectable formulation of naltrexone approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for prevention of relapse to opioid dependence following detoxification and the treatment of alcohol dependence for patients. It is nonaddictive, non-narcotic and nonpleasure-producing, according to Vivitrol’s website at www.vivitrol.com. Read More. |
