| State inmate labor force to be removed |

ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA) -- Sheriff Cecil Cantrell will lose his mechanics. That's just the beginning. The state inmate work program will soon come to an end. "It's just been a good, positive thing for Monroe County and we hate to see the state cut this program," said Sheriff Cantrell. The Mississippi Department of Corrections is cutting the program - a move the commissioner says will redirect $3.2 million to other budgetary needs. Commissioner Marshall Fisher says that will be a better use of taxpayer dollars. Monroe County Supervisor Billy Kirkpatrick says the county built a building specifically to house those state inmates.
