Tasers were used on inmates at the Chatham County jail more than 190 times in 2014, according to records produced by the sheriff’s office at the request of the Savannah Morning News. The newspaper asked the county for records of use of force involving Tasers after the death of inmate Matthew Ajibade at the jail on New Year’s Day. The 21-year-old Savannah man, who was arrested on a domestic violence charge Jan. 1, reportedly fought with deputies at the jail during the booking process and was eventually left in an isolation cell. At some point, a Taser was used on him. A coroner last week said Ajibade’s death was homicide by blunt-force trauma. Read More. |
