| New hearing today in prison whistle-blower case |

LANSING — The former head of internal affairs at the Michigan Department of Corrections gets a second chance to challenge his removal today before the state Civil Service Commission. Stephen Marschke says one reason he lost his $110,000-a-year job in 2012 was that he refused to conduct a search of employee computers to determine who was leaking stories to the Free Press. The department says it was a cost-cutting move, and a commission hearing officer rejected Marschke's whistle-blower claims and sided with the department after a 2012 hearing. But in 2014, after new records surfaced, Ingham County Circuit Judge James Jamo ordered a new hearing for Marschke after finding that the department's No. 2 official, Randall Treacher, may have committed perjury at the 2012 hearing.
