A prisoner identified as one of the leaders in a 1981 riot at the Iowa State penitentiary at Fort Madison has completed his sentence and has been released from a maximum security federal prison in Colorado where was serving his Iowa sentence. Fred Scaletta, a spokesman for the Iowa Department of Corrections, says Everett "Pecos" Wagner was released over the weekend to a relative who lives in Colorado. Scaletta says the 49-year-old Wagner will not be under parole supervision because he has fully served all the time required under Iowa law. Wagner, formerly of Seattle, entered Iowa's prison system in 1976 after being convicted of breaking and entering in Warren County. He was named by prison officials as one of the five principal figures involved in the 1981 uprising at the Iowa State Penitentiary that caused more than one (m) million dollars in damage and left one inmate dead. |
