| Guard Gene Palmer is second employee arrested in connection with New York prison escape |

A Clinton Correctional Facility guard was arrested Wednesday in connection with the escape of two inmates from the maximum security prison in Dannemora on June 6. Gene E. Palmer, 57, of Dannemora, appeared in Plattsburgh Town Court late Wednesday on a charge of promoting prison contraband and two counts of tampering with physical evidence, all felonies. Palmer, who is on administrative leave, also is charged with official misconduct, a misdemeanor. The development came amid another day of searching for convicted murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat, who police fear may have had access to guns from isolated hunters' camps in the Franklin County wilderness.
