| Corrections Department has 35 new officers |

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Department of Corrections added 35 correctional officers to its ranks recently. The officers graduated June 19 from the six-week Southeast Region Academy held on the grounds of the Oklahoma State Penitentiary, and will begin working at prisons in Taft, Boley, McAlester, Stringtown, Atoka, Hominy and Hodgen. The cadets join the ranks of approximately 1,500 state corrections officers working in prisons throughout Oklahoma. DOC Director Robert Patton told lawmakers this year that Oklahoma needs nearly 900 more officers to manage the state’s prisons, which are overcrowded and understaffed.
