| Superintendent during Dannemora prison break to retire |

The former superintendent of the Clinton Correctional Facility who was in charge when Richard Matt and David Sweat escaped in June has put in for his retirement. Steven Racette has listed a July 31 retirement date, according to state records. He still has the option of withdrawing the retirement, although there was no indication he planned to do so. Racette, a veteran of the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, and 11 others were put on administrative leave shortly after the June 6 escape, which triggered a multimillion-dollar three-week search.
