Minnesota prairie kid grows up to be a serial killer

Daniel Thomas Hood, who executed two Minnesotans, including an 81-year-old woman, in a cornfield in 1996, was serving a life sentence plus 25 years in a New Mexico prison, when he decided two wasn't enough.

In a remote section of the recreation yard inside the Las Cruces Correctional Facility in late April, Hood, now age 34, bludgeoned to death fellow inmate and murderer Frank Pauline. Hood used a rock to bash the victim's head in.

Pauline died April 27, his 42nd birthday.

Hood's latest savagery could be explained as another heinous crime committed by a real bad dude. Or sometimes a human being is simply evil.
