| KDOC responds to county’s jail lawsuit |

The state has responded to a lawsuit filed by County Attorney Cecil Watkins regarding architectural and engineering fees for the new jail. At the end of May Watkins filed a lawsuit on behalf of Rowan Fiscal Court against the Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC) after the department said it could not pay an invoice it received from the county. The lawsuit asked for $825,000 in architectural costs for the new Rowan County Detention Center. That amount should cover most or all of the county’s agreement with the jail architect based on an estimated construction cost of $15 million, which coincides with the county’s recent bond issuance.
