| S.C. inmate killed in weekend stabbing |

An inmate was fatally stabbed at the Lieber Correctional Institution near Ridgeville, S.C. last weekend. Steven Moultrie, 40, was stabbed with a homemade knife last Sunday afternoon. Moultrie was stabbed several times and suffered wounds to his heart and lungs, said Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet. Moultrie and the suspect were housed in Lieber's Special Management Unit, where officers put prisoners who cause trouble, said S.C. Corrections director Jon Ozmint Several details about the incident have not been released, including the name of the inmate suspected in the stabbing and why the two men ran into each other. The State Law Enforcement Division has not filed any charges, Lt. Richard Hunton said. The suspect was doing time for voluntary manslaughter and a serious assault charge, while Moultrie was serving a 32-year sentence for assault and battery with intent to kill, Ozmint said. |
