| Parole system needs major changes, residents and officials agree |

A recent string of incidents involving parolees in our area has us asking: what changes need to me made to make sure our community is safe? The most recent incident involving a parolee was just this past week. A man wanted for a string of armed robberies was shot and arrested by police. Officials say he was released from prison in May but stopped checking in with parole officers last week -- around the same time the robberies started. It’s become obvious that people want change in light of what happened so we asked some local officials how they would change the parole system. Gates Police say Shaun Zimmer skipped his parole meeting, robbed over half a dozen gas stations and then injured a cop as he was being taken into custody. Shaun Zimmer's arrest comes less than a year after a parolee raped a girl in downtown Rochester and another parolee shot and killed Rochester Police Officer Daryl Pierson. Read More. |
