STAUNTON — After prison authorities reportedly intercepted a nude photo of a 17-year-old girl that was sent last summer to an inmate at the Augusta Correctional Center in Craigsville, an investigation was launched against Philip B. Shaw, who is serving nearly 20 years in connection with a 2012 slaying. The confiscated photo led to charges of possession of a cellphone by a prisoner and possession of child porn, court records show. In Augusta County Circuit Court on Monday, Shaw, 25, pleaded guilty to the cellphone charge, but the child porn charge was not prosecuted. Shaw, an inmate at the Craigsville prison last summer before being transferred, was serving an 18-year sentence on charges that included voluntary manslaughter when prison officials discovered the photo of the teen in the mail, according to Rupen Shah, the chief deputy commonwealth's attorney for Augusta County.
