| Prisons in crosshairs after Dannemora escape |

MARCY — In the wake of the escape of two convicted killers last month from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, questions have arisen about whether the entire state prison system needs to be reviewed. That includes the medium security corrections facilities at Marcy and Midstate in Marcy and Mohawk in Rome. While the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision instituted immediate changes in the aftermath of the escape, one state official is calling for a major review of prison policies. Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-Rome, said that although a number of entities have begun investigations regarding the escape that garnered national attention in June, he believes the state Legislature and Senate should conduct their own hearings.
