| Supervisors still in dark concerning fate of trusty prison work program |

The Union County Board of Supervisors are just as much in the dark concerning the fate of the trusty state-county work program as they were a week ago. During the July 6 meeting, Sheriff Jimmy Edwards called Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Marshall L. Fisher, concerning possible ways to keep the program or at least keep some trusties. At that time Fisher told Edwards and the supervisors that he would be sending a memo Wednesday (last week) outlining requirements and conditions counties would have to meet in order to keep trusties. When questioned by supervisors at this week’s meeting, Edwards said he had heard nothing and an attempt to call Fisher again was met with a message that he was unavailable. Read More. |
