ROCK HILL

An escaped inmate who walked away from work release last week and eluded authorities despite a manhunt is in custody, South Carolina prison officials said.

Bobby Albert Camp III, 25, has been apprehended, said Stephanie Givens, a spokesperson for the S.C. Department of Corrections. Camp is in the Greenville County jail but details of Camp’s capture are not yet available.

Camp walked away July 7 and had not been seen since. Police in both Carolinas were searching for him, and a SWAT situation July 9 at a Rock Hill home after officials thought Camp might be there turned up nothing.

Camp is serving a seven-year sentence for robbery. It is his second prison stretch for robbery after serving time while a teen.

Camp was working at Rock Hill’s B & B Tire when he escaped. He was not the only inmate to walk away last week.
