WALLKILL >> Officials are investigating the alleged assault of a corrections officer at the Shawangunk Correctional Facility in the hamlet of Wallkill, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said Thursday. Linda Foglia confirmed that inmate Robert Blount, 39, a convicted murderer, assaulted an officer at the prison on Wednesday, July 8. Foglia would not release the name of the corrections officer or say whether he is on active duty following the incident. As a result of the investigation, Blount is facing charges of assault on an officer, violent conduct, refusing a direct order, creating a disturbance and making threats, all “internal rule violations,” Foglia said.
