Clint Eldeen didn’t need to tunnel through the floor of his South Dakota State Penitentiary cell to reach freedom. He simply walked away. Eldeen’s story is typical of prison escapes in South Dakota, which tend to involve plots that are relatively pedestrian. Seventy-five prisoners have escaped South Dakota Department of Corrections custody since 2008. All but one came from a minimum-security facility, where inmates often come and go for work release and other programs outside the facility’s walls. Read More. |
