Screen protectors were still on the desk phones, laptops and even televisions at the Reno County Correctional Facility, but its creators were more than ready to welcome a county community that voted for it. The $21 million, 75,000-square-foot facility on 11 acres of land has a sleek design, and was well thought out by the jail committee, commission members, sheriff and design team. “When we first started meeting, we were told it was going to be a six-month project, well it ended up to be a two year project. But I’m glad it lasted that long, because this allowed us a lot of time and research to develop the project and to get things right,” said Lee Spence, member of the jail committee. “The old jail, it was just in terrible condition for our officers and everybody that was there working at the jail,” Spence said.
