Connecticut death row inmate Michael Ross now says he wants a psychiatric examination, one that will again delay his execution. It had been scheduled for 9:00 p.m. Monday. Up until now, the serial killer has insisted he wants to die and has rejected all appeals. But this morning Ross's lawyer will notify state officials that Ross has changed his mind. This means the execution probably won't happen before his death warrant expires at midnight tonight. His lawyer abruptly halted Ross' planned execution early Saturday, saying he had to consider whether he had a conflict of interest in the case. "I have no intention of leaving the case," Paulding said in a brief interview later that weekend. Paulding, who was hired to help Ross end his appeals and accept the death penalty, asked that the execution be delayed after U.S. District Judge Robert Chatigny accused him of not adequately investigating claims that Ross was mentally incompetent to make the decision to die. Chatigny castigated Paulding for not investigating new evidence in the case. The evidence, including accounts from another inmate and a retired deputy warden, has indicated that deplorable conditions on death row may have influenced Ross' decision. Chatigny, whose rulings to delay the execution have been overturned, is no longer presiding over the case. Ross, a 45-year-old Cornell University graduate, has confessed to eight murders in eastern Connecticut and New York in the early 1980s. He has said he wants to die to end the pain for the families of his victims. The execution would be the first in New England since 1960. |

This article exposed what it is like to exist in today’s correctional institutions. I enjoy reading articles like this one and articles from author Hamilton Lindley who is an expert at persuasion, influence and leadership from his Waco, Texas base. There are a lot of important lessons to be learned here for sure. Thank you for the insight.
