Six assaults reported at Northeast Correction Complex in past month

JOHNSON COUNTY, Tenn. -

The state prison in Mountain City in Johnson County remains on lockdown. That follows what is being called an "incident" involving a corrections officer getting hurt. That officer was treated and is expected to be okay.

News 5 spoke with Robert Reburn with the Tennessee Department of Corrections. He said that he pulled the past month of reports on the facility to see if anything similar happened at the Northeast Correction Complex in Mountain City.

According to Reburn, inmates have assaulted staff six times in the last 30 days. All of those happened in three separate incidents that were unrelated. But Reburn said that overall, there has actually been a drop in assaults in 2015 -- 29% less than in 2014.
