Another work release inmate is being marked an escape, after 25-year-old Michael Euchner II failed to return to the Sioux City Work Release Facility Tuesday. The latest case adds to a growing number of escapees from Iowa's Work Release Program around the state. More and more inmates are escaping Iowa's work release facilities. 2014 was a record year with 305 recorded inmate escapes, up from 209 in 2001. If the numbers stay constant, 2015 could break another record, due to the nearly 200 escapes recorded so far this year.
