SANTA FE, New Mex. (KRQE) β The state is taking a chance on a man with a dangerous past. David Van Horn is the first ex-convict the state has directly hired after a stint in prison. The Department of Corrections just hired Van Horn, 40, for a pilot program aimed at helping inmates who are released from prison transition into the world outside. If it works, more could follow in his footsteps. Van Horn is now a contract employee working as a the lead cook supervisor in the kitchen at the state prison in Santa Fe, serving staff and cadets.
