| Family fights to get early release for ill inmate |

NEW HAVEN >> The family of a 31-year-old city man who is terminally ill with cancer while serving a 7-year prison sentence for selling narcotics, is fighting to get him an early release from Department of Correction custody so he can be home with family in his final weeks or months. But even with a doctor’s promised recommendation for the release, Jesse Cherry’s family is worried bureaucratic red tape they say they know so well could hold it up until it’s too late. They also claim the DOC has botched Cherry’s treatment and pain management from the start. A DOC spokeswoman said she cannot comment on specific cases because of privacy laws. Read More. |
