California Medical Facility to Honor Fallen Correctional Officer

VACAVILLE β€” California Medical Facility (CMF) will pay tribute to Correctional Officer Albert β€œAl” Patch by dedicating a monument in his honor on the grounds of the institution he gave his life to protect.

Patch, a 16-year veteran of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), was killed by an inmate on Aug. 17, 1980. He was breaking up a fight between three inmates when he was fatally stabbed in the chest.

Patch, who was 44 when he died, was an Air Force veteran and a volunteer firefighter. He left behind his wife, Marian, and two children. The city of Vacaville built Al Patch Park to honor his commitment to community service and public safety.
