LITTLE ROCK - Gov. Asa Hutchinson has appointed Faulkner County Sheriff Andy Shock to the Arkansas State Parole Board.

Hutchinson announced the appointment Monday, saying the 41-year-old Shock will start Sept. 1.

Shock, who was elected sheriff in 2012, will resign once he's sworn in as a parole board member. He will replace attorney Richard Mays Jr., who resigned July 17, citing personal and professional obligations.

Shock will fill the rest of Mays' term, which expires in 2018. A spokesman for the governor says his salary will be about $82,000.
