| Man flown 400km on charter flight to serve jail in lieu of paying fines |

The Department of Corrections will not say how much it cost to fly a fine defaulter 400 kilometres on a charter plane to serve time in jail in lieu of paying his fines. Paul, a 720 ABC Perth caller, described how his friend Richard was arrested last week in the West Australian south-east coastal town of Esperance for $4,000 in unpaid fines related to speeding and drink-driving offences. He said Richard was flown 400km north to Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison in Kalgoorlie, accompanied by two guards in a specially chartered flight, then released after five nights in prison with his fines cleared.
