| TDOC Officers Rail Against New Schedule, Correction Commissioner At Legislative Plaza |

A small group of Tennessee Department of Corrections employees showed up at Legislative Plaza today to rail against a new 28-day work scheduled implemented by the department. Michael Blount, a corporal at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution, said he's worried about how exhausted his officers are after working a new 28-day schedule implemented in the past few months for corrections officers within the TDOC system. He's worked for TDOC for eight years, and previously spent several tours in Iraq with the Army. After a legislative hearing Monday where TDOC Commissioner Derrick Schofield all but told legislators there were no issues within the system, Blount said he'd had enough. "Ever since Schofield took over it's been a complete mess," said Blount, who was one of around 10 TDOC employees who gathered at the plaza. "At this point, I've had people walk out over not getting paid overtime. I've seen people working ungodly amounts of hours and then just not getting paid right when they do get the overtime."
