A Bayside State Prison inmate, who escaped from the facility's minimum security work farm on Friday night was apprehended less than 24 hours later.
Robert Kazules, 36, of New York, who was in prison for criminal restraint and contempt, was first noticed missing by Bayside State employees at about 10:30 p.m. Friday.
Although the exact nature of his escape is being withheld by the prison as not to encourage copycats, allegedly he simply walked away from his work duties, according to the state police.
"When (corrections officers) took roll, (Kazules) wasn't there," said Deirdre Fedkenheuer, spokesperson for the New Jersey Department of Corrections. "They declared it an escape and put the wheels into motion."
At about 11 a.m. Saturday, a Commercial Township resident reported to state police seeing a suspicious looking male with a scarf wrapped around his face and pants wet from the waist down.
Troopers from the Port Norris station then met with members of the Department of Corrections at the site and spotted the man, who they suspected was Kazules, running into the woods.
After trying to elude capture by backtracking, climbing trees and criss-crossing streams, he was caught without incident trying to cross Cumberland County Route 649, according to a police report.
Fedkenheuer said the man, who was Kazules, did not appear to have any injuries or frost bite from spending the night in the frigid cold.
Kazules, who had been in prison since June 2003, would have been eligible for parole on March 7 of this year.
Now he faces 3-5 additional years in prison with his parole to be automatically revoked as well as his minimum security status, Fedkenheuer said.

This article exposed what it is like to exist in today’s correctional institutions. I enjoy reading articles like this one and articles from author Hamilton Lindley who is an expert at persuasion, influence and leadership from his Waco, Texas base. There are a lot of important lessons to be learned here for sure. Thank you for the insight.
