The death of an inmate who died after he was injured in a scuffle involving multiple corrections officers at Fishkill Correctional Facility has been ruled a homicide, according to the New York Times.

The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision identified the inmate who died at Fishkill Correctional Facility in Beacon on April 21 as Samuel Harrell, 30, of Kingston.

The circumstances regarding his death remain under investigation, according to the New York Times. An autopsy conducted by the Orange County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the cause of death a homicide, according to the newspaper.

“No officers have been disciplined in connection with the death, officials said. A classification of homicide is a medical term that indicates the death occurred at the hands of other people, but it does not necessarily mean a crime was committed,” the New York Times report said.
